Decentralized Organic Waste Treatment, Built for Smarter Collection

BioSkip is a containerized system that stabilizes and volume-reduces organic waste near the source, reducing transport costs and enabling scalable decentralized waste systems.

For municipalities, operators, campuses, hospitality groups, and industrial sites.

BioSkip containerized organic waste system

BioSkip is designed for real operating environments where organic waste is generated daily and transport is costly. By stabilizing waste closer to the source, BioSkip supports a shift from centralized waste handling to more flexible, decentralized treatment systems.

Product Overview

What is BioSkip?

BioSkip is a proprietary, patent-pending modular processing system designed for decentralized organic waste treatment.

  • Controlled aeration Supports biological stabilization of organic waste, reducing degradable material over the process cycle.
  • Volume reduction before transport Stabilized material is denser, directly improving collection efficiency and overall economic performance.
  • Odor & leachate management Air and liquids are managed within a sealed system to support cleaner site operations.
  • Operational monitoring & data Track process performance and generate data for reporting and site management.

BioSkip can be deployed as a standalone on-site unit or integrated into broader waste management systems.

How BioSkip Fits Your Operation

Two Deployment Roles, One System

BioSkip works in two complementary modes depending on your operational context.

On-Site Decentralized Treatment

Waste is treated directly where it is generated, on campuses, hospitality clusters, food markets, or industrial facilities. BioSkip improves local storage and handling, reduces odor, and supports cleaner day-to-day waste management without requiring transport.

Best for: Sites with daily organic waste generation

Pre-Treatment Before Collection

Waste is stabilized and volume-reduced upstream before entering the main collection or transport chain. This reduces collection run frequency, lowers transport pressure on downstream facilities, and helps composting and anaerobic digestion operators receive better-quality feedstock.

Best for: Collection operators and treatment facility operators

Process Overview

How BioSkip Works

A contained, four-stage process that handles stabilization, odor, moisture, and monitoring in a single unit.

BioSkip process diagram

Load & Preparation

Organic waste is loaded into the container, with optional bulking material to optimize the process.

Active Aeration

Airflow is controlled to maintain biological activity and stabilize the material.

Odor, Moisture & Leachate Management

Exhaust air is treated to reduce moisture and odor, while liquids are collected and managed within a sealed system.

Stabilized Output

Material exits stabilized and volume-reduced for further treatment or transport..

Design Philosophy

Designed for Real Conditions

BioSkip is built for decentralized environments where infrastructure may be limited, sites are diverse, and operational flexibility matters. It is a field-deployable system developed through real project experience, not a laboratory prototype.

  • Containerized and mobile, deployable without major infrastructure
  • Adaptable to different site types and organic waste streams
  • Scalable by adding units as volumes or site networks grow
  • Designed around odor, leachate, and monitoring requirements
  • Suited to emerging markets and environments with limited grid infrastructure

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this work without a large central plant?
Yes. Alterba designs decentralized and hybrid models specifically to reduce reliance on a single central facility.
How is odor controlled?
Odor is managed through process control—airflow, moisture, and carbon balance—combined with exhaust air treatment where required.
How does Alterba compare to 24–48 hour composters?
Alterba does not aim to artificially accelerate composting into a 24–48 hour cycle. Rapid composters often rely on heat and mechanical processing and typically produce material that requires more time off-site for curing. Alterba prioritizes biological stability and output quality, even if the process takes longer.
Why doesn’t Alterba use compact dehydrators ”composters”?
Compact dehydrators remove moisture but do not biologically treat waste. The output remains waste and still requires disposal. Alterba focuses on treatment solutions that reduce disposal dependency and create a usable material.
Is the output real compost?
Yes. Alterba systems produce biologically stabilized compost or compost-ready material, depending on the project configuration. This is fundamentally different from dried or partially processed waste.
Does Alterba's system produce biogas?
No. Alterba focuses on aerobic composting rather than anaerobic digestion. This avoids the operational complexity, capital costs, and energy offtake risks associated with biogas systems.
What are the maintenance requirements?
Maintenance is low to moderate and comparable to industrial waste-handling equipment. It includes routine inspections, cleaning, and basic mechanical checks.
Does Alterba provide turnkey solutions for other waste streams?
Alterba specializes in organic waste management solutions. For other waste streams , Alterba can design and engineer complete facilities as part of an integrated waste management strategy. Additionally, Alterba collaborates with specialized technology providers and can connect you with trusted partners who focus on specific non-organic waste streams.
